Cy the Cardinal Crewneck
Cy the Cardinal officially became the athletic mascot in 1954, with his first incarnation appearing at a homecoming pep rally. Since it’s hard to make a mascot out of a cyclone, Iowa State drew inspiration from their cardinal and gold colors to make the mascot a cardinal. This retro Cy illustration first launched as an ISU logo in 1983.
